last callLast Call

Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Factory: Tabacalera Fernandez S.A.
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Rosado
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Length: 4 1/2 Inches
Ring Gauge: 48
Vitola: Petit Robusto
Strength: Medium-Full
The cigar features a retro-looking band with red text over an off-white background. It’s a bit of an interesting contrast to the boxes which uses gold lettering on a darker wood color, something that looks a lot more modern. That being said, I like the look. Covered feet are certainly less noticeable than they once were, but I’ve always been fond of them. The darker Ecuadorian wrapper smells of oatmeal cookies with some milder leather and barnyard behind it. Oddly, the foot smells quite different with a sweet milk chocolate breaking through over top some leather and acetone. The cold draw is rather open, which causes some concern, and features a sweet chocolate milkshake over a bit of that acetone flavor.

new worldNew World

Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Factory: Tabacalera Fernandez S.A.
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua (Jalapa)
Filler: Nicaragua (Condega, Estelí, Ometepe)
Size: 6 Inches
Ring Gauge: 66
Vitola: Gran Gordo
Strength: Mild-Medium
The New World Brute’s candy bar shape is certainly different from your typical, off the shelf parejo, and is most noticeable at the head, where the hard press on the cigar appears to make the shoulders cascade downward. From front to back there is a firm pillow sensation, while a squeeze from side to side shows a much harder profile. There is a good amount of tooth on the earthy brown wrapper, with the veins small and a visible but clean seam line. The prelight aroma is rich and complex with notes of toffee, nuts, a bit of wood, some pepper and even a bit of toast. The cold draw varied between the two samples, one was average and the other was wide open; both were less vibrant than the aroma, showing a slightly more earthy flavor with just a touch of pepper.

bellas artesBellas Artes

Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Factory: Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A.
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua (Quilalí Havana 92)
Filler: Nicaragua (Estelí, Condega and Jalapa), Brazil (Mata Norte) & Honduras
Length: 5 Inches
Ring Gauge: 52
Vitola: Robusto
Strength: Medium-Full
Given that the Bellas Artes uses a hybrid wrapper that I’m not familiar with, I’m most intrigued by that top leaf, a peanut butter shade wrapper that is soft and supple to the touch and not particularly oily, toothy or marked with veins. It’s a fairly uniform color, though the cap does vary the most among the three samples, often a shade or two different from the rest of the cigar and a problem that isn’t unique to this leaf or factory. The box-press comes with a bit of give, as the cigar is softer than a good number of the parejos that I have been smoking lately but it’s quite in line with this style of presentation. The foot provides a bit of sweet cereal that is along the lines of Frosted Flakes or Corn Pops, with one sample making me think of Honey Smacks in particular. The cold draw is smooth and easy and also has some sweetness to it leaning the way of apple and banana but also with a dry undertone that suggested dried fruits or a bit of very dry kindling.

Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Factory: Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A.
Wrapper: Habano
Binder: Camaroon
Filler: Nicaragua
Length: 5.0, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0 Inches
Ring Gauge: 52
Vitola: Churchill, Robusto, Salomon, Toro
Strength: Medium-Full
This pretty peach hails from the famed Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Draped in a gorgeous, reddish hued Habano Rosado wrapper leaf, Enclave sports dual bands that set an ambiance of old world Cuba from the get-go. Underneath the sheets rests a refined Cameroon binder sitting firmly atop select Nicaraguan long-fillers, including a choice Piloto Cubano strain grown on AJ’s proprietary farms. Cuban-esque to a T, Enclave boasts delicate notes of cedar, white pepper, cinnamon, and sweet spices that maintain perfect balance right down to the nub. Another secured mainstay in the humi from Sr. Fernandez, clear ample space for this treat! Enclave received a well-deserved ‘92’-rating and Top 25 Cigars of 2016 honors from Cigar Aficionado noting: “Each puff is full of earthy, bready notes punctuated by carob chips and coffee.”

When you first see the Leaf by Oscar cigar, you’ll say “What the…?” and then look around to see if someone’s messing with you. They’re not. Look, we know the cigar isn’t going to win any beauty contests…until you take off that protective outer leaf, unwrapping it like a gift you didn’t think you wanted.

Trust us–you’ll want this.

Under that Leaf by Oscar leaf, you’ll find a perfectly-rolled cigar with a lusciously oily wrapper. Look closely and you’ll be hard-pressed to find many veins. Take a glance at the foot—tightly (but not too tightly as you’ll see when you light up) and perfectly constructed Honduran long filler ready to surprise you again with rich flavor. Wahoo!

All Leaf by Oscar cigars are handmade in Honduras, banded with organic bands, and wrapped in a tobacco leaf. They are available in Toro (6 x 50) and Double Toro/Gordo (6 x 60)

Alan Rubin, the owner of Alec Bradley, must never sleep. This man releases 90+ rated, premium cigars year after year after year. And when you learn the story behind Alec Bradley, it's no wonder he works so hard. The company is named after Alan's two children, and Alan places his full passion and dedication into making this a family company that anyone could be proud of. Rocky Patel - October 22

Saturday, October 22, from 12m - 4pm

In an industry built on name recognition and reputation, Rocky Patel’s passion has brought his brand to heights unseen by most boutique cigar manufacturers. His hard work and long hours have been paying off in big ways. A survivor of the cigar boom, Patel has outlasted his competition with unrivaled persistence on his quest for perfection. With a grueling travel schedule, office responsibilities and production, Rocky still maintains the enthusiasm that he has had since day one. As he travels the world, putting his cigars in the mouths of his consumers, his passion extends beyond the retailer, allowing his customers the experience of meeting the man behind their favorite smokes. Rocky Patel has created a company that has outshined even those created by multimillion dollar corporations, and he’s doing it one customer at a time.

It was a great event and widely attended by many Rocky Patel fans all over Indianapolis, Noblesville, Fishers, Westfield, Carmel, Zionsville, Sheridan, and other areas. There were great deals and good smoking throughout the day complimented by our "master griller" Duane Julius who served up some awesome brats and burgers for all to enjoy!

Saturday, October 1st from 11am - 4pm

It was a wonderful event on Saturday with our shop filled with customers and guests excited to speak with Nestor.  As always, he was so accommodating and spoke with everyone at the shop! Many took advantage of the great deals and promotions that day and Nestor had a wonderful time!  Thanks to all who attended, who provided the food, and to Nestor for coming out and making this a successful event!

Video of Nestor Miranda at the Event!

Below is a video that was taken that day of Nestor regarding how he got into the cigar business, his passion for cigars and how he enjoys providing an excellent product for all of us to enjoy!

A Note From One of Our Regulars, Mark Hancock Regarding the Event

"Always look forward to the annual Nestor Miranda event at Carmacks and this year did not disappoint. Nestor is one of the coolest guys in the cigar industry and he's like family at Carmacks, it's a blast to sit and have a drink with him and listen to his endless stories. I bought a box of his new Nestor Miranda Collection Habano Corona Gorda size and love the peppery taste and find them to be a solid cigar. With a box purchase, they threw in a backpack, tee shirt, lighter, ashtray and a 5 pack- unbelievable! The event was great meeting new aficionados and hanging with the great friends I have met over the years. Kristi brought in a great spread of food as usual not to mention Eddies famous "sticky weenies" lol. All-in-all a great way to spend an early fall afternoon..."
